Memorial Day Weekend

We had a busy but fun weekend.  Our girls love to be “on the go” and that is just what we did this weekend.  It was a great way to begin our summer vacation!

After school on Friday I had lunch with a few of my friends that I taught with at Warrenton Elementary.  I love to catch up with them!

Of course Friday night we had mass at the Baccalaureate Mass and Saturday morning Scott’s graduation (you can read all about it in my last post).  After graduation we relaxed for a little while at the house and then we went to the Knight’s of Columbus for our 1st swim of the season.

Saturday night the kids spent the night with Nana & Papaw and Syd and I went out to eat with Billy and Kim at the Biscuit Co.  We had such a great time catching up with old friends that we rarely get to see anymore.

After church on Sunday we went to Carol Robby’s house to have lunch and swim.  The girls absolutely love going to Carol Robby’s (that is what the girls call her).  They had the best time jumping off of the diving board.  They are getting so comfortable in the water!

Friday night Syd took the girls to the Davis’ house for a dinner.  I stayed home with Andrew so I don’t have any pictures but the girls had a great time!

Yesterday (Monday) we worked around the house a little and then headed to Jackson for a little shopping and dinner.  One of our favorite little places to eat over there is Keifer’s.  This was our first time to go since they moved to the new building.  It is so nice and we enjoyed our meal as usual!

It was a great long weekend.  Now Syd has gone to work and Andrew is at school.  I have Camp Silvercloud with Junior Auxiliary this week so I will be busy with that and then our summer will begin!

Scott’s Graduation

I can’t believe Syd’s little brother Scott graduated High School this morning.  He was just 4 years old when Syd and I started dating.  We have watched him grow into a fine young man!  Last night we went to Baccalaureate Mass at St. Michaels.

Kelli and John’s Wedding

Today we celebrated my cousin Kelli’s marriage to John Austin.  They were married at the Baer House here in Vicksburg and it was a beautiful ceremony.  It was great to see my cousins and other family members.  We don’t get together often enough!

True Love

I have been thinking about this post for a while now.  My grandparents (my mother’s parents) were a perfect example of true love.  I have always looked up to my Grandaddy and Nannie.  They were Christians who always put God first then family and everything else fell next.  I was really lucky to have my grandparents for 35 years.  I have so many memories of them.  Some of my favorites are traveling to Warren, AR with them to visit my Great-Grandparents.  My mom let them take me as young as 6 weeks old!  I loved to travel with them.  They took my sister and I to Hot Springs, AR one summer and that was such a fun trip.  They let my sister and I spend 1 or 2 days a week with them in the summers.  We would help them in the garden picking beans, peas, corn etc.  I remember my fingers being so sore from shelling peas but I loved every minute of it.  They would pay my sister and I a little money…like $2 to dust the furniture.  We thought we were rich!  After we worked all morning we would relax and watch game shows all afternoon.  My Nannie LOVED game shows.  My Nannie was also the BEST cook I have ever known.  My personal favorite dish was her Chicken and Dumplings.  I hope to one day be able to make them like her.  My sister loved her purple hull peas and spaghetti and my cousin Stephanie loved her macaroni and cheese.  We ALL loved her roast and yummy mashed potatoes with homemade gravy.  My Grandaddy was always in the kitchen helping her with whatever she told him to do!  My grandparents were always together.  They never went anywhere without the other.  They were a very special couple.  I could go on and on about them but there is just so much to tell.  I will miss them so much but I will cherish all of my memories.  I am so glad that they got to meet my 3 children and my children got to meet them.

My Nannie passed on March 27, 2012 and my Grandaddy went to be with her just 32 days later on April 29, 2012.  That is TRUE LOVE!  He couldn’t bear to live on without his wife.  I just hope that Syd and I can live such a good example for our kids and grandkids in the future.

Mother’s Day and Dance Recital

I had a fabulous Mother’s Day today!  We went to church and then home for a quick lunch.  Sarah Beth had her dance recital this afternoon and then Syd and Jason had supper for us tonight.  We had ribs, potato salad, baked beans and lemon pies!  It was all super yummy!  I am so blessed to have a wonderful mother and mother-in-law who go above and beyond to make me happy.  I have 3 precious children who call me mommy and I hope I can be as good a mom to them as my mom is to me and Dinnie is to Syd.

Here are a few pics from our day.
